The Reality of Fame and its Impact on Mental Health: A Call for Empathy in the Digital Age

In today's digital age, where social media platforms reign supreme, fame has taken on a new dimension. With a single viral moment, an individual can achieve instant recognition and find themselves thrust into the spotlight. While fame may appear glamorous from the outside, its impact on mental health is a reality that often goes unnoticed. Additionally, the rise of keyboard warriors, individuals who engage in online hate speech and post hurtful comments, has further exacerbated the negative effects on those in the public eye. In this article, we delve into the harsh reality of fame and why it is crucial for keyboard warriors to exercise empathy before posting hurtful comments.

The Hidden Side of Fame:

Fame comes with a multitude of challenges, many of which have a profound impact on an individual's mental well-being. Constant scrutiny, invasion of privacy, and relentless public judgment can take a toll on even the most resilient individuals. Celebrities often face immense pressure to maintain a flawless public image, leading to a sense of isolation and anxiety. Moreover, the disconnect between the public persona and the private self can exacerbate feelings of loneliness and inadequacy.

The Illusion of Perfection:

Social media platforms have contributed significantly to the distortion of reality and the perpetuation of an unattainable standard of perfection. Celebrities are expected to be flawless, both physically and emotionally, which can lead to a constant need for validation and the fear of making any mistakes. The pressure to conform to societal expectations often results in the deterioration of mental health, as individuals struggle to meet unrealistic standards.

Keyboard Warriors: Impact of Hateful Comments:

While the internet has undoubtedly brought us closer together, it has also created a breeding ground for negativity and hostility. Keyboard warriors, shielded by the anonymity of the online world, feel emboldened to post hurtful comments without fully comprehending the consequences of their actions. The impact of such hateful comments on individuals in the public eye cannot be overstated. Behind the screen, there are real people with real emotions, and the barrage of negative remarks can have severe consequences on their mental health.

The Power of Empathy:

It is imperative for us, as a society, to recognize the power of empathy and compassion in our interactions, particularly when it comes to our online behavior. A simple pause to consider the potential impact of our words can make a significant difference. Instead of spreading hate, we should strive to cultivate an environment of support and understanding. Constructive criticism is essential, but it should be delivered respectfully and with the intention of promoting growth rather than tearing someone down.

Promoting Mental Health Awareness:

To address the mental health challenges faced by individuals in the public eye, it is crucial to promote mental health awareness and provide support systems. Celebrities themselves are increasingly speaking out about their struggles, helping to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. Society needs to foster an environment that encourages open conversations, understanding, and access to mental health resources for all, irrespective of their level of fame.

The reality of fame goes far beyond red carpets and paparazzi flashes. Behind the glitz and glamour lies the toll it takes on an individual's mental health. The rise of keyboard warriors further compounds the challenges faced by those in the public eye, as they navigate a world where hate can be spewed at the click of a button. As responsible digital citizens, we must recognize the profound impact of our words and strive to build a more empathetic and supportive online community. Only by doing so can we contribute to the well-being and mental health of all individuals, famous or not.

'Everybody needs a strong support system in everything they do' with Craig Levinson

Our first episode for 2022 and founder Glenn Marsden chats with Craig Levinson – A Talent Manager in the USA as well as mentor and manager to Zion Clark who under his management is taking the world by storm.

A Netflix Documentary, Brand Deals, Opportunities amongst many other things.

He is somebody in the USA who certainly knows how to make things happen for his clients that is for sure, but there is a side to Craig that we absolutely drew to immediately upon getting to know him.

That was his undeniable support for those around him.

We knew we wanted to hear Craig's story and find out more about the man behind making sure everybody around him has that support system they need in everything they do, and why it is so important to him.

South African born New Zealand raised, Craig made a bold move at 19 to the USA to pursue his dreams of playing college basketball which saw a natural progression to becoming a strong advocate for optimising human performance through health and wellness.

Throughout this passion and playing in the game, Craig found an appreciation in helping others. With a background and experience in both Marketing and Business Development, Craig saw that he could not only help talent in their careers but also make sure they had the support that is necessary.

Thus he created his own Talent Agency in representing both athletes and influencers.

This is an incredible episode of not only an entrepreneurial journey and what can be achieved when you put your mind to something, work hard and learn that sometimes in life you simply have to make that bold move to achieve what you want.

But an episode that gives you an insight into the person behind the profession that makes sure Mental Wellbeing and support systems are always top priority.

The Efforts of the Imperfectly Perfect Campaign reach Hollywood and beyond

The Imperfectly Perfect Campaign’s Ethos is about disrupting social media, dismantling corporate silence and breaking down the barriers that keep so many isolated and alone.

Our vision for the future is about creating a new world for humanity where acceptance and understanding is at the fore-front of every human interaction where our differences are celebrated through love and compassion.

We are so grateful for the continued support of our Global Community and look forward to bringing each and everyone of you along this journey with us to help as many people struggling with their Mental Health as possible globally.

Imperfectly Perfect Campaign’s Global Efforts to Challenge the Narrative around Mental Health

They are some of the worlds most recognised faces across entertainment, sports and corporate getting behind the Global Efforts of the Imperfectly Perfect Campaign founded by 1 Photographer whose aim was to change the ‘face’ of Mental Health & Challenge the Narrative around out.

The overarching aim of Imperfectly Perfect is to change the face of mental health by dismantling the stigmas associated with it. These stigmas tear at the very fabric of society where the very elemental courtesies for human decency are forgotten and eroded.

One stigma utilizes a language that proposes that Mental Health starts and ends quickly. Snapping out of it is a phrase often heard as a satisfactory treatment in the torrential battle of mental health disorders that engulf lives.

The scars of mental health disorders are very real and behind a face that from the outside you think is doing okay, there is a conversation we do not want to hear or listen to.

“Have you ever hated yourself and your life so much that you wanted to kill yourself? I have. [Robb Mack]

Isolated, given labels that epitomize citizens of the world who may lack intelligence, creativity and any sense of positive value, who battle a silent enemy. Every moment, minute, hour of the day, they fight, fight a battle that leaves them bereft, broken and exhausted.

"I have to fight. This Negative Self Harm talk, fear, doubt, insecurity demon that tells me "its all pointless, why bother, stay in bed it's never gunna get better, give up already […] and on and on and on." [Jeremy Jackson]

Stop for a moment, if this were someone you loved, your brother, sister, wife, husband or friend how would you champion them in their constant battle.

By changing the culture and challenging the perceptions of Mental Health Awareness, Imperfectly Perfect captures the essence of humanity by helping the world to see there is a serious issue that has no barrier of fame, fortune, social status, creed, beliefs, ethnicity or age. Their innovation is centred with founder, Glenn Marsden who captures the visceral emotion frame by frame, tear drop by tear drop. Glenn's heart knows, truly knows the plight through personal experience.

With that heart he is breaking ground and forging new paths. Join Imperfectly Perfect, and some of the world's most influential public figures to build a legacy - your legacy that surpasses time. A legacy that provides education, healing, support, advocacy and public awareness so that the conversation around mental health disorders normalizes, enabling your children, grand children and future generations to live without stigmas attached to mental health. imperfectlyperfectcampaign.org

Angelica Bridges gets behind the Imperfectly Perfect Campaign's Global Efforts.

‘There is no such thing as perfection. To me, it just means being yourself and not worrying about creating an image or having to prove anything to anyone that you are a certain way or anything. People I find will love you more for your honesty, for being who you are, not trying to be someone else because you’ll never align if you are trying to be someone else. The more authentic you are in this life, in this world the easier it is and like you said the more you let go of things, things then get easier and they start to flow and that’s about being Imperfect’ @angelicabridges

He shares while working at a restaurant in L.A., how he met a group of girls who worked in porn who suggested that he consider doing so as well. He agreed to meet with an agent, who told him that because of his good looks and because there was a need for acting experience, he could likely have a successful career as a porn star.

The guilt and nerves gradually diminished throughout his first year working as a porn star. “The more numb I became to what it was, the less I felt conflicted about it,” he said. “It was just a transaction to me. A handshake was sometimes more personal than having sex.” Joshua them delves in to the decision to leave the porn industry being the result of something one could describe as a modern-day miracle.

Joshua Broome shares his truth on the Imperfectly Perfect Podcast

‘I am a father of 3 beautiful boys, I have a wife who loves me so much and we’ve been married for 5 years last week and I have a story that lets people know ‘hey, if you believe that having all this sex is going to make you happy, it didn’t make me happy. Fame, No it didn’t work. Money, I made over a million dollars at the time in the industry, didn’t work. I actually achieved everything that I believe would make me happier and at the end of it, I was left broken and depressed and I realised that, man if this won’t bring me happiness and piece what will and I get to point someone to that one thing that does provide peace’ @iamjoshuabroome

Upcoming Episode for the @imperfectlyperfect_podcast coming soon

He Was One of the Top Five Male Porn Stars in the World. Now He’s a Pastor.

Joshua Broome wanted to die. After achieving fame firstly in acting then the porn industry, he spirraled down into a pit of confusion, was at the end of himself — and believed he had no viable path forward. Seeing beyond the fog of the present felt impossible. After years of buried emotions, the former adult film star could no longer compress his angst and fear. “I'm thinking, ‘I want to die.

I don't have the guts to kill myself, but like how would I do it ... I just don't want to live anymore. There's no future, there's no one who's going to marry me, there's no employer who’s going to hire me ... I'm absolutely useless.’”

But rather than give up, Broome mustered the courage to leave the industry and rebuild his life and is now a husband, father and pastor, boldly defying the lies he told himself in the midst of his despair.

It’s our behaviour as humans in our everyday interactions. When I see somebody with THAT look on their face. I know THAT look on their face. I had a friend, a very good looking, successful dentist. Who happens to be married to a man, they lost their child, they went through a divorce and he too had that same look. But ya know? He’s great coz’ what your wealthy, your good looking. No! ‘Being Imperfectly Perfect to me means to be authentically vulnerable and present in each moment which is not an easy task. But can be consistently progress not perfection and to take action. So if I’m vulnerable and I have a feeling and want to share it, don’t pause and take 5 seconds to let it into the brain to let it screw your whole thing up. Do it. It means if I’m having a feeling and I want to cry, cry. It’s that energy that’s going to create somebody else’s energy. It’s going to pay it forward exactly what you are doing and so that to me, imperfectly perfect is like, it’s those moments when you think it should be perfect, that you stop, your head takes over, your brain gets involved. You try to manipulate it into something that it’s not. If you cannot take that pause and you are in it, then you are imperfectly perfect. It is what it is.’ - @edensassoon
